On this page you’ll find a wide variety of birth stories from the North East of Scotland. These are not ‘perfect’ birth stories, they are real stories from real people. And in real life things don’t always go to plan.
These stories have been shared to inspire you, to help you learn about options and to see that many different types of birth can be positive.
You can filter by category, search through the stories or just read through them all. If you have any questions after reading any stories get in touch with me via our Contact Me page.
The Power of Birth Stories
I’m going to assume that because you’re here you already believe that reading birth stories is a good idea! I want to share why I think it’s so important.
It helps you learn about your options, maybe you’ll read about something you didn’t know was possible, or you’ll be inspired to research something in more detail, helping you be more prepared.
It will help you believe that a positive birth is possible, this is really important if your only experience of birth is through movies or you’ve heard a lot of birth stories that have made you fearful of birth. Fear hinders us in labour, and this is a great first step in dealing with fear.
It might help you learn what you don’t want as well. Maybe water birth isn’t for you, or you learn something about a place of birth and decide to research other options. Everyone’s preferences are different.

What a strange time to have a baby! Covid 19 (the Corona virus) lockdown began in my 37th week of pregnancy. We had had our last midwife visit on the 20th March, this was our homebirth visit. My midwife could not have been more understanding and patient, but I was...

This is Frances & she arrived a few weeks ago at 39+4, weighing 8lb 3 3/4oz With this birth story I think it's important to actually start with a brief sum-up of my first labour, which definitely impacted my priorities this time round. When I had my son in 2014 I...
